Premier flipflops on climate change (again)
Has the Baillieu Government changed its tune on climate action or is its support for Melbourne as the home of the new Climate Change Authority blatant opportunism?
I’m wondering if I’ve woken up in some kind of alternative universe or has the Premier really changed his tune on climate change?
It's passed!
We officially have a price on pollution!
Today I went to Parliament House in Canberra to witness the carbon price legislation being passed into law. It was a humbling and exciting occasion.
The day began with the final speeches in the Senate. The public gallery was packed with community members buzzing with excitement to be there. Many Senators spoke passionately about why putting a price on pollution is critical to our future. Many of us reflected on the courage of the Government, Independents and The Greens to get the legislation to this final stage.
Last chance to pull Murray-Darling back from the brink
How quickly we forget
Last year, the Murray River and its tributaries were on the brink of collapse because of a dire lack of water. Yet we've allowed one good season of rain and a political water-fight to almost wash that memory away.
You may have heard the shocking news
that that the Victorian Government is slashing Environment Victoria’s funding
We don’t know exactly how much funding we’ll lose but here’s what we know so far.
Will the state government reveal its environment agenda
at next Tuesday’s budget?
Budget time is where the real priorities of governments are revealed. As has been said many times, real commitment is demonstrated when you put your money where your mouth is!
To date, the state government has been missing in action on our environment.
The Coalition
faces a challenging environment
Thursday, 3 February 2010
When the Victorian Coalition took power in November's state election, it did so without releasing a formal policy on the environment or climate change.
Where the Coalition stands
on our environment
The election has come and gone. The dust has settled. And there’s a new Premier in town. Premier Baillieu and the Coalition now lead the state. So what does it mean for our environment?
Preferences are for politicians
but our environment is for us all
Amidst all the discussion on the Greens and preferences, it seems the two major parties which could actually form the next government have forgotten that our environment is in serious trouble.
While the ALP has made some promising announcements on climate change, they are yet to outline a comprehensive package to address Victoria’s environmental challenges over the next four years. Meanwhile the Coalition are missing in action and seem content to contest this election without any major environment polices.
