Help us create a clean and green Victoria

By getting smart on your transport choices

Dirty Fact: Transport is responsible for 15 percent of Australia’s greenhouse pollution – second only to coal fired electricity. And most of this pollution comes from driving our petrol guzzling, greenhouse polluting cars round and round... and round. Shocking right!

Happy World Environment Day!

Celebrate by getting involved in one of these local actions

From Hollywood stars to schoolchildren, millions of people on every continent will take action for the planet on 5 June for World Environment Day.

Under the theme 'Many Species. One Planet. One Future', this year’s event will celebrate the incredible diversity of life on Earth as part of the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity.

Make your winter sustainably toasty

with these tips for a warm house

It’s that time of the year again, and all around Victoria people are getting ready to crank up their heaters. If only the bills wouldn’t crank up too! More than half the energy we use in our homes goes to our heating. And it’s not so good for the environment either, with heating being a major source of household greenhouse gas emissions.

Thankfully you can be warm without chewing through the greenhouse pollution, just by using these smart tips to heat your home.

Help Replace Hazelwood Power Station

with Clean Energy by 2012

Imagine a wealthy state like Victoria being home to one of the dirtiest power station in the industrialized world. You’d think that was impossible wouldn’t you? Unfortunately its not, which is why we’re campaigning to Replace Hazelwood Power Station with cleaner, greener alternatives.

Get into composting, worm farms and bokashi

and make our environment happy forever and a day

Composting your food scraps using a compost bin, worm farm or bokashi bucket will do oodles of good for your household and our planet. It will cut your greenhouse gas emissions, halve your rubbish, reduce waste that ends up in landfill and of course create a juicy, healthy soil your plants will love. And they’re all extraordinarily simple to set up and maintain. What a win!

Best of all, you don’t need a garden to get involved. Read on to find out which one is right for you.

Switch to GreenPower

and cut your greenhouse gasses for as little as $1 per week!

Back in October we suggested you do your very own DIY sustainability audit. Three cheers for those that got on board. It’ll certainly make a big difference to your home’s impact on the planet. But as always, there’s more you can do. And this month, it’s switching to GreenPower.

What’s your vision for Victoria?

Have your voice heard!

In 2010, both the state and federal governments go to the polls. And what better opportunity to put a little pressure on those pollies and get the policies we need for our environment.

Invest in ethical funds

and make a positive difference

One great way to safeguard our environment is by choosing an ethical fund or savings account. We sense a bit of eyebrow raising, but it is fair dinkum…

Ethical investment is about making sure you know what your money is doing. If you’re making personal efforts to reduce your water and energy use, taking public transport and recycling, then your money should be working to make a positive difference too.

Green up this festive season

and feel warm and fuzzy

We kicked off this festive season with a call to step out for the Walk Against Warming. And you brilliant people responded in droves - making it one of the biggest protests ever anywhere. So here’s a big thanks to you Victoria! Three cheers: hip-pip horray, hip-pip horray, hip-pip horray!

Oh why not, let’s throw in a big squeeze hug too, you deserve it.

Green Action of the Month

Step out for the Walk Against Warming

If you’ve ever replaced an old light globe with an energy efficient one, taken public transport instead of driving, switched to Green Power, or worried about the kind of world you’re going to leave to your kids, then the 2009 Walk Against Warming is for you!
