Walk Against Warming 2010
Walk with the people. Not the big polluters.
We’re doing our bit on climate change. It’s time to make our government do theirs.
There’s a federal election on its way. Yet both major parties falling way behind the community on climate issues and Victorian voters have reason to feel somewhat abandoned by their leaders.
With so much at stake, it’s time for the community to put real climate action back on the election agenda.
So on Sunday, 15 August, we’re holding a Walk Against Warming to demand that our next government faces up to their responsibilities on climate change. We’ll remind them that to secure our votes, they must walk with the people; not the big polluters.
This year we’re taking our message for a safe climate straight to the people that matter most – the voters.
We’ll coordinate hundreds of Victorians in three key electorates to come together for a quick mini-rally calling for climate action. Following this, with your help we plan to letterbox the entire area with our key climate asks to make sure that voters in those areas know what actions our leaders must take on climate change.
That means that less than one week before the federal election, up to 300,000 of the most influential voters in Victoria will receive our safe climate message. How good! But we need your help!
So far we have enough people to reach 80,000 voters with our safe climate message. That's a lot of people who will stop, think and hopefully take action. But there is a long way to go before we reach our goal of 300,000 voters. So get involved and register now

If you don’t live in one of those areas never fear, you can still get involved. We're on the hunt for people or Climate Action Groups in regional Victoria to letterbox the safe climate message far and wide. We've got everything you need to make it happen. So give us a shout
And if you can’t make it on the day, there are still lots of ways you can get involved and help us make the Walk Against Warming a huge success. Start with signing this letter to the next Prime Minister of Australia

Thanks to EV for the Walk and Thanks to Beyond Zero for the Plan
I lot of people probably haven't thought about what a big job organising a rally & letterboxing are, so THANK YOU E.V. and all the others like Oxfam who played their part. Also Thanks to Beyond Zero Emissions for the Zero Carbon Australia Plan. It is a brilliant piece of work which give hope. Now we just need the political will to DO IT. If you haven't read it here's the link: http://media.beyondzeroemissions.org/ZCA2020_Stationary_Energy_Synopsis_...
Before I commit to a walk....
i would like to know precisely where this group stands on CARBON DIOXIDE credits trading schemes.
Clear delineation between these three items is needed;
A CARBON DIOXIDE TAX,
CARBON DIOXIDE Credits Trading Scheme,
and
CARBON DIOXIDE pollution legislation requiring cuts to pollution, being then enforceable by the EPA. (This being totally separate to the two items above.)
Drive against warming?
We'll be walking in NSW! Look out for us, Jayride, Australia's new green carpool and rideshare travel community: Trust me - carpooling? The next best thing to walking! http://www.jayride.com.au
Beyond Zero Emissions
I recommend checking out the BZE plans, for a 100% renewable energy plan that could easily be achieved. the only thing missing is political will. I'll be voting for a safe climate. http://beyondzeroemissions.org/
