Clean up cars and save your cash!
We all want better public transport, more bike paths, cleaner air and cheaper living costs.
But if you do need to use a car, wouldn’t you like to know it’s not a gas guzzler? And wouldn’t it be nice to save around $700 a year off your petrol costs?
Environment Victoria is calling on the Australian Government to make sure new cars sold in Australia use much less petrol than they do now.
It could bring Australia up to speed, cut pollution and help families everywhere by introducing a strong national standard and mandate fuel efficiency to acheive an average of 5L per 100km for all new cars sold in Australia by 2015.
Japan, the US and the European Union all have compulsory fuel efficiency standards.
Why don’t we?
Please sign this letter and send it to our Prime Minister and Senior Cabinet Ministers and let them know that you want a strong mandatory fuel efficiency standard.
(And don't forget - customised letters always get more attention. So don't be afraid to add your own thoughts!)

My new DB9
I am saving up for a DB9 so can we make it 2020 cause it will probably use a lot more fuel than 5L/100km
I can't wait for electric
I can't wait for electric cars to come on stream . Every day oil seems like a worse and worse option.
If South Korea can do it...
There is currently an awesome documentary series screening on Wednesdays at 8:00pm on ABC2 called 'e²'. The current series investigates different approaches towards solving transport issues, focusing less on the area of design and fuel alternatives and more on the larger context of human behaviour and urbanization. It is so inspiring and demonstrates how other countries have encourage citizens to get ouf of their car, which I believe is key to the future survival of our Earth.
If you haven't seen the series, I highly recommend you check it out on iView http://www.abc.net.au/tv/iview/
Greenhouse gas
I live in north-west Victoria near the largest inland city without a passenger train.
I would like to see the Federal Government persuade the Victorian Government that for many, many reasons including cutting greenhouse gas emissions by travelling by train instead of cars to Melbourne that use so much petrol
