Submission to Productivity Commission inquiry
The Commonwealth Government has asked the Productivity Commission to investigate the most effective ways to return water to river systems in the Murray-Darling Basin. So far the focus has been on buying water from farmers who are willing to sell it. This study looks at the alternatives and the barriers to getting enough water to make a difference.
Environment Victoria is arguing for an integrated approach that helps communities adjust to climate change and returns water to rivers at the same time.
