Getting About without a Car: Guidelines for promoting healthy transport to older people

These guidelines aim to help older people make the most of healthy transport. The information and ideas are particularly useful for:

  • People running programs for seniors. For example, seniors who want to start up a ‘Public transport ramblers group’ at their local University of the Third Age (U3A), retirement village activities coordinators, and professionals who organise activities for seniors.
  • People who provide services to seniors. For example, professionals in ageing, transport, sustainable development, health and planning sectors; older people’s organisations such as the Council onthe Ageing, and public transport service providers.

The guidelines include practical suggestions to help seniors get around, and bigger picture suggestions, like improving walking routes and public transport.
