Our submission to the Gippsland Region SWS Discussion Paper

The Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy (GRSWS) is a major policy framework through which the Victorian Government will determine the fate of our river systems and the quality of life in Gippsland for current and future generations.

Gippsland is fortunate to have some of the healthiest river systems left in Victoria, which sustain the ecologically and economically valuable Gippsland Lakes. Other rivers in the region are amongst the State’s most stressed and abused. All are under threat from limitations to the existing water allocation framework and the effects of climate change.

Environment Victoria’s vision for Gippsland in 2059 is described in this submission.

It's based on a future where healthy rivers support abundant life and regional prosperity, providing fresh water, good food, clean energy and places to love and enjoy. It also covers key areas to be addressed by the GRSWS in order for it to be successful.
